The strength of WMG Films lies in the international network that was formed through working in the movie industry in both Americas as well as Europe for over 20 years in the fields of financing, distribution and production. WMG Films now independently develops and produces feature films for the international market.
Winfried Hammacher was licensed in law at the University of Bonn, from which he also received his PhD in 1983. In 1989 he moved into film production, distribution and financing and became managing partner of WMG Film GmbH. He was also active in exhibition and managed movie theaters in Germany. In the early 90s WMG produced and coproduced highly acclaimed UK, French and US art house movies like “Daughters of the Dust”, Lars von Triers first movie “Europa”, “Sirens” and “Queen Margot”.
Since the late 90s Hammacher has arranged financing for the production of US movies and, in 2006, he started to develop and produce independent films. His first film “As If I Am Not There” (2010), about the Bosnian war, was critically acclaimed at numerous international festivals including Toronto, Palm Springs and Cairo and won three Irish film prizes. The thriller “Deadfall” (2012), by award-winning director Stefan Ruzowitzky premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was released worldwide in November 2012. Latest production is “The Liberator” (2014), a biopic showing how Simon Bolivar freed Latin America from the Spanish. It premieres in Toronto 2013.
